Cable theft skyrockets

Transnet spent R193m in 2020/2021 replacing stolen cable. Late last year Transnet said the R1.6bn it was spending on security, including contracts for physical guarding, was failing to make an impact as more cable was being stolen, up from 395km in 2019/2020 to 700km in 2020/2021 and 1,000km in the first seven months of 2021/2022.
